Nitin Bankar and Ram Mishra are the names of the characters that Akshay Kumar and Suniel Shetty enact in DE DANA DAN. However, a little known fact is that these names aren't fictitious. Instead, it's a nice little gift by the two actors to their long standing spot-boys who go by the same names. While Akshay's spotboy name is Nitin Bankar, Suneil's man in demand is Ram Mishra.
Apparently, it was Akshay's idea to be named as Nitin and director Priyadarshan was game for it. Soon, Suniel too joined in and the naming hassles were sorted out.
Laughs Priyadarshan when reminded about naming the film's principal protagonists, "We were thinking about what to name these two characters since we wanted them to be simple and the kind that any common man can relate to. There was never an intention to keep anything filmy. Since Akshay plays a Maharashtrian in the film, he suggested to be called Nitin Bankar who happens to be his spot-boy. I found it as a nice name and consented immediately. To keep the uniformity on, Suniel's character was named as Ram Mishra."
Incidentally, it's not just Akshay and Suniel who have non-filmy names in the film. Other principal cast in DE DANA DAN carries hardcore Punjabi names that go as Harbans Chaddha (Paresh Rawal), Anjali Kakkad (Katrina Kaif) and Manpreet Oberoi (Sameera Reddy).
