RADIO arrives next week and Sonal Sehgal is one of the two leading ladies opposite Himesh Reshammiya. While a few out there are aware that she has also acted opposite John Abraham in yet to be released AASHAYEIN (directed by Nagesh Kukunoor), not many are aware that she also has a released film to her credit.
That's true. Sonal had made her big screen debut 4 years back in U, BOMSI N ME (2005) which was directed by Jairaj Padmanabhan. She was one of the leading ladies in the film which also starred Vidya Malvade. Quiz Sonal about this and she says, 'See, you can't really count U, BOMSI N ME as a proper Bollywood debut due to two reasons. First and foremost, it was an English language film. Secondly, it was released only in Mumbai.'
So what took her so long to pick and choose only two films in the years gone by - AASHAYEIN and now RADIO?
'Offers did come but they were not good enough', confesses Sonal, 'I didn't want to do any C grade work. The project should have been worthwhile enough. Of course even the biggest films may not do well but if something doesn't excite me from Day One then I can't do a film just for a pay-check.'
She adds on a lighter note, 'I am a very lazy person in any case. I would rather sit at home and watch TV than work in bad films. I can watch these TV soaps day in and night out. And then my favourite thing would be to read books and watch movies. If there is no exciting work outside, my house is the best place for me to be in.'
