All special screenings, paid previews and press shows of WAKE UP SID are over and now is the moment of the reckoning as the film releases all over. While reactions from the select set of audiences and critics are still pouring in, something which has stayed on to be consistent is appreciation for Ranbir's performance.
In his very third film (after SAAWARIYA and BACHNA AE HASEENO), Ranbir Kapoor comes up with a neat, simple and a truly believable performance sans any heroism involved. When most actors would have been happy to establish their standing in Bollywood with a quintessential romantic hero role, Ranbir goes on to do a film like WAKE UP SID where he is anything but a hero.
His performance in the film makes one thing quite clear. And that's that next time when a star son gets an opportunity to get an author backed role, there is no reason why one should be complaining. That's because if he actually goes on to come up with as flawless an act as seen in WAKE UP SID, one should not really be looking around for anyone else. It's actors like Ranbir that make one exclaim that 'It's all in the genes'! He proves it quite well for the third time in a row and demonstrates once again that how amongst the younger generation; he is someone who has to be taken as a serious challenge to Shahid Kapoor.
WAKE UP SID is bound to raise Ranbir's stock as an actor in months to come. Now one would be keenly looking forward to his performance in films like AJAB PREM KI GHAZAB KAHANI, ROCKET SINGH - SALESMAN OF THE YEAR and RAJNEETI, all of which would be releasing in the next quarter in Nov'09, Dec'09 and Jan'10 respectively.
