WANTED and LOVE AAJ KAL
Saif Ali Khan can afford to breathe easy. LOVE AAJ KAL can continue to be the biggest money spinner of the year for at least few more weeks before biggies like BLUE, ALL THE BEST or 3 IDIOTS threaten its current India total of 66 crores. Till a week back, it had seemed that WANTED may well cross the total, courtesy it's roaring opening at the box office followed by a very good second week. With more than 50 crores in it's kitty in two weeks flat, the film was taking huge strides en route to crossing 66 crores benchmark set by LOVE AAJ KAL.
However, it is now clear that Salman Khan would have to wait for some more before getting another 60 crores + earner like PARTNER. Reason being that WANTED has seen a massive drop in collections in its third week. Due to the release of WAKE UP SID and DO KNOT DISTURB last week, WANTED was more or less sidelined, especially in the big cities that resulted in dent in the film's collections.
While the aforementioned films did quite well over the weekend, WANTED had to be content with just about 5-6 crores, hence bringing the film's collections to about 57 crores. With ACID FACTORY releasing this week and next week Diwali releases (BLUE, ALL THE BEST, MAIN AURR MRS KHANNA) promising to capture majority of screens across the country, there are little chances that WANTED would get enough visibility to make it's presence felt in days to come.
At the moment, WANTED seems to be headed towards the 62-63 crores mark as a lifetime total. Though it would fall a little short of LOVE AAJ KAL, it still is a huge achievement for Boney Kapoor, Prabhu Deva and Co. since they have managed to achieve this feat with collections mainly from the single screens rather than multiplexes.
For a movie that arrived as an underdog with major hype being created only three weeks prior to its release, WANTED has still turned out to be a very huge success. And how!
