Film maker Sujoy Ghosh has always been known for his admiration for Amitabh Bachchan. No wonder, for his upcoming film ALADIN, he has revisited each of the films starring Amitabh Bachchan that have been made in the past, studied certain key scenes and dialogues and come up with his own take by presenting them in the milieu of the film.
Says a source attached to the film, "It is a journey down the memory lane for those - and I am sure there are millions of them - who have followed Mr. Bachchan's films over last four decades. In his illustrious career, he has had so many memorable scenes worth revisiting, so many one liners worth remembering, so many highlight costumes and so many chartbuster songs."
Amitabh Bachchan was Sujoy's only choice when he conceptualized the character of 'Genius - The Genie' for ALADIN. While it has been an established fact that Amitabh Bachchan's character of 'Genie' is set in contemporary times and hence is flashy, vibrant, cool and almost like a dude, not many were aware that Sujoy has also extended his real life tribute to the actor on reel as well.
"When you have someone like Mr. Bachchan working with you, you naturally become a lot greedy. You want to talk to him everything about his work over the years, the way he approached his character and then also try to present him with a characterization that he has never been seen in before", says Sujoy who was always intrigued by the way Amitabh Bachchan has continued to re-invent himself over all these years.
As homage, he wanted audiences to get a sneak peak into the Bachchan of the era gone by. For this reason, he has got those elements incorporated into the character of 'Genius - The Genie' that would instantly find a connect with the audiences.
"As a fan of his work, you also want him to do something that you know would keep millions of his fans and followers worldwide happy. It's a good mix and I really had fun putting it all together. As for the inspiration factor, it's for the audiences to see once the film hits the screens. I would be keen to see how they catch and then react to it", adds Sujoy.
No wonder, one can already see Amitabh Bachchan shaking a leg a la 'Pag Ghunghroo Bandh' [NAMAK HALAL] in 'O Re Saawariya' with his pink 'pagdi' and trademark white 'kurta' intact. His song 'Tak Dhina Dhin' too has a 'Jahan Teri Yeh Nazar Hai' [KAALIA] flavour to it. Moreover, there are also certain scenes in the film which are inspired from Amitabh Bachchan's 'blast from the past'.
Naturally, Sujoy is fascinated by an experience called Amitabh Bachchan that he gained during the making of the film.
A co-production of Sunil Lulla from Eros International and Sujoy Ghosh's Boundscript, ALADIN also stars Sanjay Dutt in the role of 'Ringmaster', Riteish Deshmukh in the title role of ALADIN and debutant Jacqueline Fernandes as Jasmine. With music by Vishal and Shekhar, ALADIN is all set for a 30th October release.
