ROCKET SINGH-SALESMAN OF THE YEAR and 3 IDIOTS
Aamir Khan's 3 IDIOTS and Ranbir Kapoor's ROCKET SINGH SALESMAN OF THE YEAR are both set for a December release. Although 3 IDIOTS is a Christmas release while Ranbir's ROCKET SINGH is slated to release on 11th December, still the strategy of taking mileage from a bigger and more hyped release has already started. The ball got rolling in the first promo of ROCKET SINGH-SALESMAN OF THE YEAR itself that was aired across all leading television channels and web portals.
The extremely innovative promo which just featured Ranbir in his by now famous Sikh get up had the teenage heartthrob talking about his film in a very funny manner. Speaking like an experienced salesman and asking the audience to give him exactly sixty seconds so that he could speak about his film, Ranbir simply floored all with his spontaneity and natural style. Not only did he clearly and cleverly stated as to what an average cinegoer can expect from the Shimit Amin directed film, he also took a friendly jibe at senior actor Aamir Khan's 3 IDIOTS by saying that the movie is a not about those boring (but lucky) people who get ninety percent and go to IIT, IIM or AIMS. Some may question as to what is the friendly jibe here? Well Aamir's 3 IDIOTS is based on the lives of three students who are from IIT.
Media is already buzzing with the smart way of taking mileage out of a bigger release like 3 IDIOTS, but this policy has been adopted by many actors and filmmakers before this, and there is no harm as long as it is done in a sophisticated manner, keeping the dignity of the person concerned in mind.
In fact, it was brought to light just a year ago by none other than the Mr. Perfectionist himself, when he got the attendants of a theatre dress up their hair in GHAJINI style, on the opening day of his arch rival, Shah Rukh Khan's RAB NE BANA DI JODI. However both the films turned out to be All Time Blockbusters, so it seems that both benefited from each other. Let's see whether the results are similar here.
