Time and again one comes across a statement amongst movie followers that 'when it comes to comedies, Riteish Deshmukh can always be expected to excel'. Though box office response to Riteish's last two 'relatively serious' films - RANN and ALADIN - wasn't positive, the buzz in the air is that the actor would pretty much get back to his comfort zone in his forthcoming releases JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI and HOUSEFULL. What does the actor in him feel when he happens to hear such conversations?
"I guess it is not about me getting into a comfort zone or anything. It's the other way round where it is instead audience which gets into a comfort zone while seeing me doing a comedy. In any case, both JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI and HOUSEFULL are different from each other because while the former is a romantic film, HOUSEFULL is more of being an out and out comedy", Riteish winks as he brings a complete turnaround in the conversation here, "Otherwise personally I believe that I am quite comfortable across all genres. Whether it is RANN or ALADIN or DO KNOT DISTURB before that, I have thoroughly enjoyed playing my part and never once felt that I was being a misfit in the scheme of things."
However, the fact remains that these films didn't work and all that audience remembers is that Riteish Deshmukh who has acted in films belonging to the likes of HEYY BABYY, MASTI, APNA SAPNA MONEY MONEY and KYA KOOL HAIN HUM.
"Exactly the point", Riteish nods in agreement here, "You are talking about films that worked and not whether Riteish worked or not. Audience remembers these films because they were successful at the box office. On the other hand they don't remember others because they didn't. It is as simple as that. Perhaps if JAANE KAHAN SE AAYI HAI becomes a success, I would be accepted as a romantic hero as well."
