The Indian film industry owes many of its brilliant acting talents to some of the leading acting gurus. Nowadays it has become a norm for freshers to join acting classes and learn the nuances of emoting before making their silver screen debut. Amongst the leading acting gurus are Roshan Taneja, who is known as the first acting teacher of Bollywood, Kishore Namit Kapoor and Barry John to name a few.
Unlike the other acting instructors who like to take credit for the success of their students, Barry John, who is famous as Bollywood's global superstar Shah Rukh Khan's acting guru is very rooted to the ground. He refuses to take credit for SRK's global success and instead asks a very apt and pertinent question as to why other students who he trained did not achieve the same height of success; if at all SRK's success is only due to his coaching and instruction.
He adds that he only set up a foundation for SRK because at that time he did not even have his own acting school. Barry discloses that he was associated with TAG (Theater Action Group) and used to train students there. SRK was amongst the students who he had trained. They did workshop, create characters together and performed. He highlights SRK's strength as being a keen observer who learnt quickly but decided to charter his own destiny in the harsh cut throat competitive world of Bollywood. Barry also praised King Khan for handling his career well and lasting so long at the top.
Well, certainly we need more acting gurus like Barry, who are not only humble but also serve the industry by providing it with lots of good actors.
