Amongst the very famous shooting venues for horror and action films is the 158 years old Mukesh Mills in Mumbai (Colaba). Though this cloth mill was constructed in 1852 and covered an expanse of 10 acres, a huge fire engulfed it in 1970 and the second time, after a gap of about a decade. The fire gutted down every nook and corner of the mill and its ruins became the perfect venue for numerous films and television serials.
Quite a number of films (especially horror & thrillers) have been shot there and for makers like Mahesh Bhatt, their film is never complete without a few scenes being shot amongst its spine chilling locales. SADAK, RAAZ, AWARAPAN, RAAZ-THE MYSTERY CONTINUES etc are stand out examples.
Even Madhur Bhandarkar has a strong relationship with the mill with his PAGE 3 and TRAFFIC SIGNAL being shot there. Amongst the new entrants are Rensil D'Silva with his KURBAAN, Sanjay Gupta with ACID FACTORY and DUS KAHANIYAAN and Vivek Sharma with BHOOTNATH.
The latest to join the bandwagon is Vipul Shah whose much talked about ACTION REPLAYY too will feature this ancient mill as just a few weeks back, a song with the backdrop of the festival of colours, 'Holi' was picturised there on lead actress Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Neha Dhupia.
It may be amongst the last few movies to be shot there as the owners of the mill are planning to construct a residential-cum-commercial complex at the site. Naturally Bollywood is quite sad at the prospect of losing their favourite shooting venue with Mahesh Bhatt expressing his anguish over its impending loss and even going to the extent of calling Mukesh Mills one of industry's most valued gems.
Well, one more reason to look forward to ACTION REPLAYY, besides several others.
