As APARTMENT gets set to release this Friday, it has been revealed that the film was earlier titled ROOMMATES and was supposed to star Gul Panag and Raima Sen along with Pakistani actor Mikaal Zulfiqar (who had featured in SHOOT ON SIGHT) in principal roles. As a few months passed by, the film was renamed as APARTMENT and Tanushree Dutta along with Neetu Chandra and Rohit Roy stepped in. Really, what happened here?
Replies Jagmohan Mundhra, director of APARTMENT, "See, when you write a script and get your first draft in place, you have a wish list around the people who would fit into the role. Why just Gul and Raima, there were even Neha and Celina who were in that list. They all seemed well placed to fit into roles. We had 5-6 girls in mind for Tanushree's role while even Kangna was being considered for Neetu's role. The usual process is to run such a list with the producers and take their opinion. This is further driven by the fact that how much does a producer wish to spend and also which are the dates when a particular actor is available."
Mundhra doesn't deny that he also had a discussion with some of the aforementioned actors.
"Yes, I did discuss the script with most of my actor friends. For example Gul is a friend of mine and I did talk to her but there wasn't any offer from my end. Nothing was concrete and the ones who were finally offered the film are the ones who feature in it. See, you can't undermine the importance of economics. You spread your legs only as per the size of blanket. It's as simple as that. One has to be cognizant of such constraints while making production decisions", signs off Mundhra.
