Mostly associated with romantic films (he is also called the Shah Rukh Khan of Punjabi films) due to his chocolate boy good looks, and despite having excelled in them, Jimmy Shergill has intentionally tried to break free of his image by doing serious and intense roles. MUNNABHAI MBBS, YAHAAN, A WEDNESDAY and the recent MY NAME IS KHAN (where he played the supportive brother of Shah Rukh Khan with aplomb), are standout examples of his successful transition from romance to the serious genre.
However, it appears that once again the actor in Jimmy is quite bored with the serious stuff that is being showered on him after the success of MY NAME IS KHAN. Like his co-star of MNIK, SRK, Jimmy too feels that intense dramatic roles take a lot out a star and says he too (like SRK) would love to do a light hearted comedy. In fact Jimmy makes a startling revelation that he strongly believes that he (as an actor!) is meant for light hearted comedies but has not been given the opportunity to tickle the funny bone of the audience. He adds that no director has approached him despite the success of TOM DICK AND HARRY, which he signed with his eyes closed as he was highly kicked about doing a comedy.
Well, Jimmy, you will surely excel in comedy as well. How about a hat trick with SRK after MOHABBATEIN and MY NAME IS KHAN, this time via a Sitcom?
