Majority of film makers would vouch for the fact that a soundtrack can be called as a chartbuster in the making once it finds an instant appeal amongst the listeners. However, film maker Siddharth Anand who is readying up for the release of ANJAANA ANJAANI wanted to take a road less travelled. He wanted Vishal-Shekhar to present the tunes which were not just different but also didn't appeal in the very first listening.
"I know that it really sounds stupid but this is really what my requirement was for the music of ANJAANA ANJAANI," says Siddharth who is working with Vishal-Shekhar for his fourth film in a row after SALAAM NAMASTE, TA RA RUM PUM and BACHNA AE HASEENO, "I told that at any point during the song, if I start liking it in the very first listening, I won't take it."
One wonders though what was the trigger point behind the young film maker taking such a decision?
"Time and again we hear instant chartbusters that people catch on pretty quick. Many of these are standard melodies and basically akin to nursery rhymes. I didn't want that and instead required music that stayed with me for a longer duration," Siddharth gives his reasoning here, "Vishal and Shekhar also loved the idea and we have been fortunate to achieve that what we wanted."
Luckily for him, producer Sajid Nadiadwala gave him a free hand when it came to the final product while Vishal-Shekhar too were keen to experiment.
Says Sajid for whom music has always held a special place in each of his productions, "My requirement is to have popular music for each of my films. Of course the style depends upon the genre of the film but the definite requirement is to have a very good final product. After that, it is entirely up to the director and the composers on how do they wish to make that happen. I never micro manage what they are making and just listen to the soundtrack once it is ready."
Agrees Siddharth, "Sajid gave us complete freedom to make the kind of music that we wanted. I really appreciated that because I had experienced similar freedom in my first three films for Yash Raj Films as well. Due to the fact that there was a great all around atmosphere which was created, Vishal-Shekhar have managed to come up with an album which is the best ever from Nadiadwala Gradnsons."
