He has rubbed shoulders with the biggest of superstars in his short career so far. If he was the 'King' in SINGH IS KINNG that had Akshay Kumar in the lead, his role of Rajkumar Sujamal also saw quite some appreciation coming his way when he locked horns with Hrithik Roshan in JODHAA AKBAR. Believing in the philosophy of 'less being good', Sonu Sood will now be getting into a face-off with Salman Khan in the upcoming action drama DABANGG, the promo of which has created an all around wave.
"I play the role of Cheddi Singh who is a youth politician in UP. I wanted to do it a little differently and hence added some humour to my character. In fact, I remember discussing about this with my producer Arbaaz (Khan) even before I had signed on the dotted line," says Sonu, "When I enacted it the way I envisioned this role, he smiled and said that it indeed made sense. I finally did the same even in front of the camera as well."
Confident that DABANGG would well turn out to be a turning point in his career, especially due to the fact that his character has been so well etched out, Sonu declares that Cheddi Singh would be remembered for years to come.
"Yes, I am quite sure about that," he says, "Also, since the film is based on UP-Bihar, it is a lot rustic. The character and locations too are very raw and rustic and it is commendable on the part of this team to achieve it since the film was shot in Wai, Maharashtra. Still, the film will take you straight into the world of UP and Bihar."
Set in Uttar Pradesh, DABANGG is the story of a corrupt police officer Chulbul Pandey played by Salman Khan and highlights the flaws and loopholes in the system. The film primarily deals with the unlawful practices in the states of UP and Bihar and releases all over this Eid i.e. 10th September.
