It can be called a mere co-incidence or even luck that the only two hits of Imran Khan, JAANE TU...YA JAANE NA and I HATE LUV STORYS have been directed by first time directors. In case of JT...YJN it was Abbas Tyrewala's debut directorial venture, despite him being a big name as a lyricist and script writer in Bollywood while I HATE LUV STORYS marked the debut of Punit Malhotra, who had earlier assisted Karan Johar in a few projects.
Talking about the two failures, LUCK and KIDNAP, both were directed by recognized names in Bollywood. While KIDNAP was directed by Sanjay Gadhvi of super hit DHOOM fame, LUCK had Soham Shah at the helm of affairs who too is a name in Bollywood, having directed an above average grosser for Shah Rukh Khan's home production Red Chillies Entertaiment and Karan Johar's Dharma productions, KAAL. But it is ironical that two debutant directors proved lucky for Imran or vice versa, while the already established ones delivered turkeys!
Next on Imran's agenda is another debutant director Danish Aslam with BREAK KE BAAD opposite hit queen Deepika Padukone, and going by Imran's past record we can safely say that this film should turn out be a successful debut directorial venture for Danish and another hit film for Imran with a first time director!
Well, let's wait for 26th November and see if our prophecy turns out be correct as that is the day when BREAK KE BAAD releases.
