Wilson Loius is ready with his first commercial horror film MALLIKA. Though he has made a critically acclaimed HO SAKTA HAI in the past, MALLIKA is his first film for the commercial market. No wonder, he is going all out with the film's promotion which is currently selling Sheena Nayyar, the female protagonist, as its major USP.
"See, there are two ways you can make a horror film work. Either have the drama revolve around a child because innocence always fetches audience attention. Or then you can have a female protagonist as the focal point here. We chose the latter", says Wilson who doesn't have any qualms w.r.t. Sheena occupying centre stage as far as the promotional drive of the film is concerned.
"Sex element plays a very important role in MALLIKA since it builds on the narrative", reveals Wilson, "Don't expect anything overtly titillating out there or extensive scenes of love making though. Skin show is there but only for a limited duration where it is absolutely required. Otherwise the film sticks to its horror genre."
However, Wilson is quick to add that his brand of horror is unlike many other film makers, whether established or newcomers.
"I don't believe in gory horror at all and rest assured, it will never be a part of my films", declares Wilson, "Also, I will always make something which caters to the Indian market. I can never be making a Hollywood copy. It just doesn't make sense because in any case there is a niche audience base that watches horror cinema. If you give them something that they may have already seen before, they won't hesitate in giving you an immediate thumbs down."
