His role of the crooked politician 'Bhope Bhau' in Vishal Bhardwaj's film KAMINEY fetched him a lot of acclaim from the critics and the masses alike. And now writer- turned-actor Amol Gupte once again plays gangster-turned-politician in upcoming film PHAS GAYE RE OBAMA. One wonders is it on the same lines. However, Amol maintains that the two characters are as different as chalk and cheese.
"No that's not the truth. Actually PHAS GAYE RE OBAMA is a comic film so the tagging is also different. It's just that the wireframe of the character that he is a politician. The representation and the movement of the screenplay is very different. Warna KAMINEY ke baad toh 20-25 baar kamina banne ka mauka aaya tha but I was reluctant. Actually I am not here to absolutely get into acting. I have a different agenda," says Amole.
As Amol is keen to explore other arenas as well like production & direction, one is eager to know what really attracted Amol to take up PHAS GAYE RE OBAMA.
"I think the man (director Subhash Kapoor) attracted me because when he came in to narrate the script I saw honesty & the sparkle in his eyes and the fact that he has a journalistic background. I come from a breed of friends who are severely trying to change the face of India and when I found similar sensibilities in him, his screenplay is making sense and it has got a tweak because it is black metaphor. I was game for it," Amol said.
Also starring Neha Dhupia, Rajat Kapoor, Sanjay Mishra, Manu Rishi, PHAS GAYE RE OBAMA is all set to release on 3rd December 2010.
