It has been a known fact that Akshay Kumar, who has been in the industry for a couple of decades now, has immense love for commercial cinema. However in the current year, he has experimented in each of his films by playing a loser (HOUSEFULL), a common man (KHATTA MEETHA) and a naive young man (ACTION REPLAYY). No wonder, it is obvious that being Mr. Smart in TEES MAAR KHAN must have been a different experience altogether for Akshay in recent times.
"Absolutely", Akshay immediately nods in agreement here, "I mean I love to play different roles and that's the reason why I am not afraid to experiment or make movies that have different characterizations. But then I have always known that only commercial cinema really works here! It's not hard as to think about it, Oscar winning movies never tend to work in India. Well, no problem with that but it slightly curbs what aspiring actors want to do in their careers."
However, with the kind of experience that Akshay comes with over all these years of having acted in close to 100 odd films, Akshay acknowledges yet again that one has to go by the taste of the masses.
"Masala movies are awesome to do but sometimes one wants to break boundaries, create epics and perform challenging roles. But then India's masses are not really interested in those kind of films", he sighs, "Life is stressful enough that they just want to be happily entertained and really, I can't blame them. TEES MAAR KHAN stands for the masses and pleasing them is all that I ever want to do."
Well, one waits to be pleased here as this Akshay, Katrina and Akshaye starrer releases in India on 24th December with an early US/UK release.
