Ashutosh Gowariker has not been associated with all out commercial potboiler stuff (recently), having directed patriotic, award winning and intellectually gratifying films like LAGAAN, SWADES, JODHAA AKBAR and KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY, so our headlines will certainly catch everyone by surprise.
However what we report here is hundred per cent true. When questioned by the fourth estate about an old film that Ashutosh would love to remake, his answer baffled all. Ashutosh revealed his secret desire to remake the Godfather of commercial potboilers, Manmohan Desai's all out entertainer, AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY, as 'the' film that he would love to remake. And he had a very interesting answer, which as always highlighted his noble cause and concern for our country.
Ashutsoh explained that he loved the theme of AMAR AKBAR ANTHONY, which is about tolerance and coming together and living in harmony of different characters belonging to different religions. He also added that the concept of three religions and the way it was handled, coupled with the escapist entertainment that the film provided without getting preachy is what inspires him.
Well, after having worked with all three top actors of Bollywood, Aamir Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Hrithik Roshan, it would indeed be a casting coup of sorts if Ashutsoh succeeds in getting the trio together for the remake or may be the unimaginable, the Khan troika, Shah Rukh, Aamir and Salman ! Whatever the case we are quite sure that all previous box-office records would be shattered, if the impossible does happen.
