It was two decades back when a team of debutants - Sooraj Barjatya, Salman Khan (in his first leading role) and Bhagyashree - had come together for a romcom which brought with it a whiff of fresh air. The film was MAINE PYAR KIYA which had released on 29th December, 1989.
Today, exactly 21 years later, yet another team of debutants under the same banner (Rajshri Productions) is coming together for a film - ISI LIFE MEIN. This time it is the turn of director Vidhi Kasliwal along with her newcomer actors Akshay Oberoi and Sandeepa Dhar.
"Well, isn't it wonderful," exclaims Akshay who is earnest in the manner he talks about his association with an out and out new team, "There are so many first time directors who have made brilliant movies in the past. Look at Sooraj Barjatya (MAINE PYAR KIYA), Aditya Chopra (DILWALE DULHANIYA LE JAYENGE) or Karan Johar (KUCH KUCH HOTA HAI). Now these are legendary film makers who have hit a home run in their very first outing. I am sure Vidhi too can do that."
Talking fondly about his director, Akshay says with a smile, "The way Vidhi narrates a script; you know that she is so passionate about her work. She was so clued into the script and knew her characters and situations inside out. She knows how to develop her characters and bring those personality traits out of her actors."
Well, one looks forward to history repeating itself 21 years down the line with ISI LIFE MEIN releasing this Friday.
