The way TOONPUR KA SUPERRHERO has been ignored in theaters, it also reminds one of Christmas 2008 when Akshay Kumar, who was riding high on his multiple back to back successes, had brought his animated JUMBO on the same day as much hyped GHAJINI. While the former was a disaster, the latter went on to become a blockbuster.
Circa 2010 and Ajay Devgn, buoyed by his super successful year so far, did have the right reasons to believe that his super run will continue with this superhero film. This is the reason why he brought his animation flick opposite TEES MAAR KHAN. However, the results are hardly but heartening.
AKSHAY KUMAR and AJAY DEVGAN
If poor footfalls were bad, the reviews too have been mixed with most appreciating the quality of animation but giving the story in general a thumbs-down. One still believes though that if only TOONPUR KA SUPERRHERO wouldn't have clashed with TEES MAAR KHAN and seen a clean release for itself in another festive season, it would have enjoyed far better attention and subsequently good footfalls as well. The film was a good attempt but with the kind of collections it has to show, the film isn't really going through happy times.
ISI LIFE MEIN...! made the same mistake as well to arrive against a mighty opposition. Wrong release period, poor show timings, nil hype, an average product in hand, no curiosity amongst the audience and poor reviews meant that ISI LIFE MEIN went totally unnoticed. The only thing that went in favour of this Sooraj Barjatya production was some good promotion (if one goes by the small budget in which the film has been made). However that was never going to be good enough.
One hopes that in 2011 when Shah Rukh Khan's DON 2 (expected to arrive in Christmas) releases, no other film maker repeats the same mistake.
