It has been a month since film maker Vivek Agnihotri announced FREEDOM. Expected to star Sanjay Dutt as the central protagonist, the film would begin from the time of emergency in the 70s. Moreover, some of the other major fiery episodes which would be brought alive on screen are the infamous Sikh riots, the Bofors scam, the sterilization campaign by Sanjay Gandhi and other prominent scams that have happened during last three decades.
Given the fact that Vivek is exploring not one, not two but more than half a dozen ugly episodes from the history of modern India, doesn't he fear protests and confrontation from the political parties as well as others who would rather want to let the sleeping dog lie? Isn't he encouraging quite a few skeletons to come out of the cupboard?
"Now what can one do, the truth can't be erased, right? And then courtesy the kind of politicians that we have been having in the country, both in the past as well as the current times, you can't deny the relevance and topicality of the issues. Perhaps people have changed but not the thought process. FREEDOM will be told in the format of a political thriller and I can promise to be truly honest and unbiased in my job", says Vivek.
While Madhavan is already on board and the hunt for the leading lady is still on, Vivek's wish list also comprises of Mohan Lal. FREEDOM is all set to go on floors by April this year.
