If one looks at Bollywood today, there have been a handful of actors who have survived as a lead actor after spending 20 years in the industry. While names like Aamir Khan, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan and Saif Ali Khan instantly come to one's mind, there is another unsuspecting name that joins the list - Ajay Devgn. However, he is the only actor who has never ever been in the rat race to occupy the Top-5 slot.
Given the fact that he has been delivering at least one major hit every year since PHOOL AUR KAANTE, doesn't he too have any aspirations to contend for a slot towards the top? Doesn't he ever feel like becoming a strong contender for Top-5?
'Honestly speaking, I don't want to be compared with anyone,' says Ajay who is happy with the audience base that he has consistently enjoyed over the years, 'Yes, statistics do show that it has been a good going for me. In last 3-4 years, I have had four major releases out of which 3 have been super hits or hits. Aur kya chahiye?'
He adds with a smile, 'Baaki rahi baat Top-5 slot ki to yeh sab toh mood ke hisaab se change hote rehte hain (as far as a slot in Top-5 is concerned then they change as per mood). It is consistency that matters and one should be willing to play variety of roles across genres.'
Well, one does trust Ajay when he makes this statement. After all he is one actor who has a comedy (ATITHI TUM KAB JAOGE), political thriller (RAAJNEETI), crime drama (ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI), social (AAKROSH), comedy (GOLMAAL 3) and a live-animation flick (TOONPUR KA SUPERHERO) - all arriving in a span of a single year.
