Known for portraying dark and intense roles with a touch of naughtiness to them, Emraan Hashmi has acted in only a couple of films that have boasted of elements of comedy - JAWANI DIWANI - A YOUTHFUL RIDE (with Celina Jaitly) and GOOD BOY BAD BOY (with Isha Sharvani). Well, the world is aware about the fate meted out to these films at the box office. No wonder, the man has stayed in his 'zone' and done gritty films with ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI being the newest inclusion.
"I think meri shakal hi aisi hai ki iss type ke role aate hain", Emraan gives out a laugh here, "Till I don't get clean shaved, film makers are bound to exploit the grey side of my personality. I agree when you say that I have been playing a lot of grey characters."
While he sounds quite confident about the prospects of the film, the fact remains that he is continuing to revel in roles where there is a definite streak of grey to it.
"ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI is about an era that has gone by where gangsters and criminals ruled from underworld. The way we perceive them right now is not the way we did then. It was a different world then", says Emraan, "Well, there is something always so interesting about playing a guy who is living on the edge and is involved in something which is unethical or illegal but is still not totally black. It's fun."
Carrying fantastic pre-release reports, ONCE UPON A TIME IN MUMBAAI is releasing all over this Friday.
