It takes utter courage to invest the hard bucks and have a good amount of faith on a newcomer (especially when your entity has reached a certain level where you can't afford to take a single chance to make any blunder). However, filmmaker/ producer Karan Johar is one person in industry, who not once or twice but repeatedly took chances of having newcomers on block and also turned out immensely successful.
Yes, if we go by the records the audacious & maverick filmmaker holds, the number of young directors he's given break in his esteemed Dharma Productions, is astonishing. And whoever came under his influence became a brand in itself. It all started with director Nikhil Advani who gave a blockbuster film like KAL HO NAA HO (2003) with Dharma. With the first film itself, he created a unique mark for himself in the industry. Followed by Soham Shah, who experimented with altogether a new genre with KAAL (2005) which was quite appreciated & liked by audience, Tarun Mansukhani's superhit film DOSTANA (2008) a comic caper which explicitly talked about gay relationship, Ayan Mukherji's WAKE UP SID (2009) became a huge hit among the youth, Rensil D'Silva's critically acclaimed KURBAAN (2009).
Now the versatile producer, Kjo is yet again looking forward to 2 of his releases directed by debutants, Punit Malhotra (I HATE LUV STORYS) and Siddarth Malhotra (STEPMOM remake WE ARE FAMILY). And if the buzz is to be believed than both the films are touted to create a storm at Box-office.
Karan Johar is among those few producers, who not only believed in introducing the new talents but also shaping them to the core almost creating a Brand out of them. His is the only production house which churned out newcomers on regular basis that too with cent percent success record.
This is not something that happens too often in the industry and is deserving of the highest praise!
