Film maker Sajid Nadiadwala had recently announced that making of HOUSEFULL has cost him only around 40-45 crores. One wonders though how the film the film was made in such a reasonable budget considering the fact there are several top actors in HOUSEFULL and the shooting too was spread across different parts of the world.
Other than Deepika Padukone, Arjun Rampal, Riteish Deshmukh, Lara Dutta and Jiah Khan, most importantly the film has Akshay Kumar in the lead. Though it wasn't too long back that pay cheques of more than 50 crores per film were being attributed to Akshay Kumar in leading national newspapers, there were also rumours floating around that for his upcoming projects, the entertainer had willingly gone through a revision in his remuneration.
Nadiadwala denies though that Akshay took a pay cut for HOUSEFULL. "Not at all, Akshay's fees didn't have to come down for HOUSEFULL due to any reason whatsoever. His fees has never been so exorbitant; it has always been only in papers", says the man who has earlier made a string of films with Akshay Kumar like HEYY BABYY, JAAN E MANN, MUJHSE SHAADI KAROGI, and WAQT HAMARA HAI.
Akshay Kumar had a rather average year overall in 2009. Yes, majority of his films did take a box office opening but a major blockbuster on the lines of SINGH IS KINNG, WELCOME or a BHOOL BHULAIYAA evaded him throughout the year. He did have a few smiles with DE DANA DAN and to an extent KAMBAKKTH ISHQ as well as BLUE. However, the double shock of CHANDNI CHOWK TO CHINA and 8X10 TASVEER means that all eyes would be on HOUSEFULL to see if the superstar actor goes on to see a reversal of fortune and deliver a much awaited blockbuster.
