Just about a fortnight ago we had brought you an insight into the horror films' feast that Bollywood had dished up for the innumerable followers of the genre. We had spoken about films lined up for release one after another like CLICK, ROKKK, HIDE AND SEEK, SHAAPIT and PHOONK 2.
As of now, Sangeeth Sivan's Shreyas Talpade and Sadaa starrer CLICK and Rajesh Ranshinge's Tanushree Dutta and Udita Goswami starrer, ROKKK, have failed to appeal to the audience and have more or less ended their run at the ticket window. HIDE AND SEEK, the latest release, has turned out to be more of a thriller rather than a horror.
So, now all eyes are on Vikram Bhatt's SHAAPIT and the Ram Gopal Varma project, PHOONK 2. SHAAPIT, the last in the Vikram Bhatt trilogy (that started with RAAZ and continued with 1920), that boasts of some amazing SFX, is all set to release on 19th March. This release date may prove detrimental because of the lean period of Board Exams and IPL matches going on in full flow and also due to the competition from the much awaited and lavishly mounted LAHORE and the shoestring budget and well hyped, LOVE SEX AUR DHOKHA.
Well, it now appears that it is up to the master himself, Ram Gopal Varma, to give horror its due success through PHOONK 2 for a number of reasons. First of all PHOONK 2 has everything going for it, right from its apt release on 16th April, when the exams and most of the IPL matches will be over and summer holidays would have started in quite a few parts in India. Moreover, its curiosity factor is at its peak, especially after its spine chilling trailers and superb promotion, in the print as well as the electronic media alike. Last and not the least, it is a sequel to the highly successful PHOONK, which horror buffs swear by.
So, let's wait and watch which film the audience will patronize. Our bet is naturally on PHOONK 2!
