V.K MURTHY and SHYAM BENEGAL
Veteran cinematographer V. K. Murthy was felicitated on March 21 in Mumbai by the Mysore Association and the film fraternity, on his being conferred prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke award. Murthy is one of the oldest members of the 85-year old association.
Renowned film director Shyam Benegal was the chief guest. A short film compiled by Govind Nihalani, who once assisted Murthy and whom he considers his "guru", was screened on the occasion.
The felicitation function was preceded by inauguration of a photo exhibition by Justice Shrikrishna, whose mother Sharadamma, who was present, is one of the oldest surviving members of Mysore Association. Incidentally, she acted in a play in early fifties titled 'Meera Maduve', which was directed by V. K. Murthy.
Other organizations who participated in felicitating Murthy on the occasion were Western India Cinematographers Association (WICA), Kodak India, National Kannada Education Society, Mysore Sangeetha Vidyalaya (Dombivli), Karnataka Sangha (Mumbai), Kannada Kala Kendra, BSKB Association and Mumbai Kannada Sangha.
