Anurag Basu's KITES is certainly one of the biggest and most anticipated films of this part of the year. While most know that the idea for KITES actually came from the producer Rakesh Roshan, who was inspired by kites flying against Mumbai's skyline but not many will know that when Rakesh first narrated the idea to Anurag and asked him to direct the project, Anurag was very skeptical about it.
The director of three hit films, MURDER, GANGSTER and LIFE...IN A METRO could not understand why Rakesh, being such a competent director himself, would choose him to direct a film for his production house.
Since Anurag was busy shooting for LIFE... IN A METRO at that time, things did not materialize but a year later the two met at the IIFA awards in Bangkok and Rakesh convinced Anurag about taking over the reins, which he did.
However Anurag's doubts did not end there, he was apprehensive about how much control he would get on the sets, but soon realized that it was not the case as he was given complete freedom and was never questioned even once. In fact Rakesh went out of his way to make things comfortable for Anurag and saw to it that he got everything that was required to make KITES the most stylish and lavish international project that Bollywood has ever seen.
Must add that the meeting of two great minds, Rakesh Roshan and Anurag Basu, would definitely yield something truly world class in the form of KITES.
