Though she started off her career with a top superstar (Shah Rukh Khan) and is following it up with a heart throb (Shahid Kapoor), Anushka admits that she is quite naive when it comes to what works and what doesn't work at the box office. Let aside the business aspect of her films, she confesses to be pretty clueless when it comes to audience taste and perspective when it comes to films.
'I am not trying to sound serious here but the fact remains that films do reflect real life. Ours is an extremely diverse nation and there could be so many characters that boys and girls from different parts of the country could possibly relate to. Hence, with them no one can be quite sure that with whom they would be able to relate to better', says Anushka who has played a character attached to real life in both her films so far.
If in RAB BE BANA DI JODI, she played a regular middle class Punjabi girl, in BADMAASH COMPANY too she is enacting the role of an urban girl next door. While the former was a huge success at the box office, doesn't Anushka feel that BADMAASH COMPANY too would benefit from the fact that she is playing someone who is just a normal girl next door?
'Actually, when it comes to audience you can never say what works to your advantage or disadvantage', Anushka responds immediately, 'In case of RAB NE BANA DI JODI also, quite a few girls were able to relate to Taani. As much as I think that Taani clicked with the audience due to the way that character was presented on screen, the fact is that Bulbul too may well work with them. Also, the fact remains that it is never about just a character working in isolation; it is always more to do with the entire film in question. If that works, everything else associated with it works.'
Well, looking at the way BADMAASH COMPANY has been doing well at the box office, seems everything is indeed working out for Anushka.
