True there was not much hype for the movie despite some very good publicity (Seemingly Yash Raj have learnt from their previous mistakes of keeping their films under wraps!), and there were many reasons for that. First of all Yash Raj are no longer a force to reckon with, as they were in the past. Secondly the director Parmeet Sethi is new and does not have any hits to his credit, and also the fact that the star cast despite the dew fresh jodi of Shahid Kapoor and Anushka Sharma, did not look very exciting, nor did the concept of conning and making quick bucks a fresh one in Bollywood. In fact BADMAASH COMAPNY was looking like a poor wannabe of Yash Raj's very own BUNTY AUR BABLI.
However these negative reports did not fool us, as our patrons will remember, in our latest box-office report we had predicted that the film will open decently at multiplexes, despite some competition from Gurinder Chadha's IT'S A WONDERFUL AFTERLIFE as well as the week old HOUSEFULL. And so it happened. The film has opened quite well at multiplexes. Some like The Velocity at Indore has reported an opening in the range of 70-80 percent which is quite good. The case is similar in the rest of the multiplexes of big cities, resulting in a good to a decent weekend haul for BC. Moreover, the reports coming in are quite good as the youth seems to be enjoying the con act by the four young guns and their dare delivery as well as the exotic locales of Thailand and USA.
From the reports it is clear that the film should indeed turn out to be at least an above average grosser, if not more, for Shahid Kapoor who will surely keep his record of delivering one solo hit/success a year (since VIVAAH in 2006), intact.
