The comedy king tag is a title that every director in the film industry would give his right hand for, but not Priyadarshan. He is trying his level best to get out of this image! Though the Hindi film audience loves Priyan for his superb situational comedies but few will remember that he started off in Bollywood with serious films like VIRASAT and GARDISH. Co-incidentally both the films were good hits and received much critical acclaim. One of the best performances of Anil Kapoor and Jackie Shroff can be seen in VIRASAT and GARDISH respectively. But with HERA PHERI everything changed. The film went on to acquire a cult status and films that followed made Priyan a darling of the masses and classes. A lot of credit goes to Akshay Kumar too who was successful in providing Priyan with the tag of the comedy king.

However, every now and then Priyan listens to his heart and tries his hand at experimental cinema. But alas it appears that he has become a prisoner of his own success and the comedy king tag has stuck to him for good.

Stars like Salman Khan (KYON KI), Shah Rukh Khan and Irfaan Khan (BILLU) could not help Priyan break free of his image. But that has not deterred the never say die spirit in Priyadarshan and his latest release BUMM BUMM BOLE is a classic example of his endeavour.

Based on the award winning Iranian film, CHILDREN OF HEAVEN, the film sees the return of the TAARE ZAMEEN PAR sensation Darsheel Safary (this time without Aamir) and it also stars some of the finest actors like Atul Kulkarni and Rituparna Sen Gupta. The timing of the release is also quite apt since summer holidays are going on in most parts of India and the film is targeted at the children. Unfortunately due to lack of face value, the film has failed to take a decent initial and the word of mouth too is not very positive though everyone is unanimous that the two child artists, Darsheel Safary and Ziyah Vatsani, are excellent.

These are still early days for BUMM BUMM BOLE and all we can do is wait and watch whether the film picks up in days to come and help Priyan break free of his image. If not there is always Aamir to fall back upon and who we hear (we brought you the news a few days ago) has approved of a story and Priyan is additionally trying to rope in his friend, master actor Mohanlal too.
