Anurag Basu is known as a film maker who finishes his films fast. MURDER and GANGSTER, two of his biggest hits, were wrapped up in quick time. LIFE IN A METRO, despite its multi starrer set up, didn't take much time to be shot. However, KITES too almost three years from ideation to its eventual release. Looking back in time, does Anurag ever sit back and think - 'I could have done something else and perhaps a lot more during this duration?'
"Well, things are not always as straight forward as they appear", says Basu after a quick thought, "Before beginning KITES, I was recovering from illness. My target was to make one film a year. However, I don't think anyone delayed KITES. When you make a film of such scale and volume, you can't be immature or impatient. Yes, for me this was a new experience since I had never worked on anything as big as KITES."
However in future, Anurag is looking at balancing it all out when it comes to making films that can be wrapped up much sooner.
"I now want to make films fast", he says, "I will make big as well as small films. In any case when I make a big film, I get three to four times more money as well. However, to satisfy my urge around experimenting, I will not turn away from smaller films. I certainly want to balance it all out."
