Not many are aware that it was during the making of APAHARAN when the idea of RAAJNEETI started taking shape. Film maker Prakash Jha was working in his third film with Ajay Devgn (after DIL KYA KARE and GANGAJAL) and within his heart, he knew that his political tale would definitely feature the versatile actor. However, Ajay was not the only actor about whom Jha was sure. He also had Nana Patekar (who also featured in APAHARAN) and Arjun Rapmal in mind.
"Yes, I spoke to Ajay about the subject of RAAJNEETI way back in 2005 when we were making APAHARAN. The germ of the idea was already there and I just started developing it thereafter", informs Jha who didn't make any other film between APAHARAN and RAAJNEETI.
Arjun Rampal too confirmed recently that Jha had approached him for playing a part in APAHARAN half a decade back, only to disappear for years to follow.
Laughs Jha, "This happens in the process of film making. I was still working on the subject of the film but knew that Arjun would fit into a particular character that I had written. In fact I had also spoken to Nana (Patekar) then. There were lot of things that changed from conceptualization to the final shape that the script took. Still, the actors that I had thought of originally remained the same."
While the veteran actors were finalized there and then, new entrants like Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif came much later. Other actors who were finalized over a period of time were Naseeruddin Shah and Manoj Bajpai.
