In the past, Vipul Shah has worked with actresses like Sushmita Sen/Bipasha Basu (AANKHEN), Priyanka Chopra (WAQT), Katrina Kaif (NAMASTEY LONDON) and Asin (LONDON DREAMS). However, this is the first time that he is working with Aishwarya Rai in ACTION REPLAYY. No wonder, he wanted to do something entirely different with the beauty queen when it came to her presentation on the big screen, what with her playing a girl in her early 20s.
This indeed seems like a brave decision on the part of Vipul since in real life, Aishwarya Rai is well in her 30s. Moreover, when it comes to her recent Hindi films, she has mainly been seen in mature parts, case in point being RAAVAN, SARKAR RAJ, JODHAA AKBAR and GURU. In fact, it was way back in 2006 that Aishwarya was last seen playing a young woman in DHOOM 2.
"Well, I don't really know what there is this projection of Ash being an overtly dramatic actress," says Vipul after a brief pause, "I think this is something due to many film makers also being a fault here. They continue to reach out to her with more and more dramatic roles due to which her last few films have all fell under that genre."
"I am not saying that she didn't do well there but then perception about her on and off screen persona turned out to be one-dimensional," he adds quickly, "I wanted to do something new and if reactions to her diverse looks in Zor Ka Jhatka, Chann Ke Mohalla and Ae Bekhabar are any indication, we have managed to achieve what we had set out for."
With Akshay Kumar in lead with Aditya Roy Kapoor playing an important role as well, ACTION REPLAYY releases this Diwali (5th Nov).
