Mithun Chakravorty plays an important part in Rohit Shetty directed GOLMAAL 3. However, not many are aware that he has not one but two of his yesteryear songs forming a part of the narrative. 'I am a Disco Dancer' and 'Yaad Aa Raha Hai' are the two songs in question and incidentally both are from his first big super hit DISCO DANCER. Given the fact that GOLMAAL 3 is expected to follow a slapstick genre, as has been the case in the first two instalments of the franchise, one does tend to believe that Mithun's songs from the past could well be adding on to the gimmicky appeal of the film.
"Not really", defends Tusshar Kapoor who has been a constant feature in each of the three parts of GOLMAAL till date, "I have been associated with Rohit for all these years and know that he won't add something just for the sake of it. Even in case of Mithunji's songs in the film, by no means are they gimmicky."
In a film which has a huge ensemble cast and has an original soundtrack by Pritam, how do the songs from DISCO DANCER fit into the narrative? After all it has been close to three decades since audience first heard these songs.
"Well, these songs are pretty much situational rather than being random item tracks", says Tusshar who does share stage with the veteran actor in the film, "Whenever there is a twist in the story with an emotional scene coming in, there is 'Yaad Aa Ra Hai' which plays in the background. Of course with Mithunji around in a comedy film, you may feel that all of this is a gimmick. However, his entire track is pretty much etched in the film's narrative."
