Monica Dogra is the young woman who makes her debut opposite country's biggest brand today - Aamir Khan - when it comes to quality cinema. Surprisingly, all through the making of this Kiran Rao directed film, her presence in the DHOBI GHAT was kept absolutely low key. Now that the film is eyeing a January release, the identity of the leading lady - who was incidentally the last principal actor to be cast for the film - has finally been unveiled.
"Aamir and Prateik were always on board and when I came in, it was time for the shooting to begin immediately. This resulted in the fact that there was no time to sit down, relax and think much about the setup. Also, Aamir was very busy from day one due to which I had to forget everything about who he is and instead had to treat him like anyone else and get my scenes right," says Monica when asked about whether she was totally in awe of the superstar actor when she faced the camera alongside him.
Of course she admits that there was a sense of being shocked, as it happens with every debutant who gets such a huge platform in her very first film outing, as well as nervous since she was acting with a mighty co-star. However, once on the sets, she settled down to the fact pretty soon which means that she never went over the moon or gaga about Aamir Khan.
"I never had a vision that I would star opposite someone like Aamir Khan. When that happened, I was shocked and incredibly nervous. However, for how long can one swoon over this? If I would have been star struck or in awe, it would have been difficult for me to approach my part and do my best there," reasons Monica.
Also starring Kriti Malhotra, Kitu Gidwani and Nafisa Khan, DHOBHI GHAT would be releasing on 21st January.
