The ease and elan with which Anushka Sharma essayed her first role, the pivotal character of a strong willed Punjabi girl, Taani, in her debut venture, RAB NE BANA DI JODI, convinced all, specially the audience that she was a hard core Punjabi kudi (girl). However, people will be highly surprised to learn that Anushka is not from Punjab, in fact she is from Muzaffarnagar in Western Uttar Pradesh but has been brought up in Bangalore.
When questioned about the fact that that the audience thinks that she is a Punjabi, Anushka replied that it was because her first role was that of a Punjabi girl which made all people to assume that she is from Punjab. With a touch of humour Anushka added that if she had essayed the character of an African-American in her first film, everyone would have thought she was indeed an Afro-American!
Elaborating on her role in her upcoming film, BAND BAAJA BAARAAT, Anushka says that Shruti, her character in the film is from Delhi and so like her first film, RAB NE BANA DI JODI, this time too she had to learn the nuances to get into the skin of the character, that of a girl from Delhi, especially the accent of Delhi girls, who talk in short and don’t complete their sentences. She adds that she had to work a lot on many aspects of her character, including the intricate and very minor details for BAND BAAJA BAARAAT.
Well, now we know how much effort Anushka puts in her role and may be that is the reason why she is so very successful.
