Sanjay Leela Bhansali lost out to both box office as well as audience appreciation when his last film SAAWARIYA released three years go. Today, in case of GUZAARISH, at least half the battle has been won. Majority of critics have given a thumbs-up to the film with reviews being positive in unison. However, the trouble lies in the box-office performance of the film.
The film is being loved by those who were sold beforehand with this idea by Bhansali. However, the rest - the 'aam junta' - was not too enticed about stepping into the theaters itself, something which had a telling on the film's opening.
GUZAARISH is on a shaky ground as a lot is on stake here. The film, though seeing an escalation on audience count on a daily basis due to positive word of mouth, is an expensive affair and has a lot of ground to cover in days to come.
Does it mean that all is lost for this Hrithik Roshan and Aishwarya Rai starrer? Not really. Reason being that JODHAA AKBAR, which again featured the two superstars together, too hadn't opened on a favourable note. However, the film was appreciated quite a lot due to which it went on to grow from strength to strength and eventually turn into a box office success.
However unlike JODHAA AKBAR which almost had an open run for no new notable releases for close to 2 months, GUZAARISH would be challenged by at least one big film with every passing week. BREAK KE BAAD, KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SE, RAKHT CHARITRA 2, NO PROBLEM, BAND BAAJA BARAAT and then TEES MAAR KHAN are all set to release between next week and end of year, something which only makes the journey not impossible, but terribly tough for GUZAARISH.
If the film manages to break even from this point on, it would well be a success for this expensive dream by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.
