It was after the success of MEL KARADE RABBA that Jimmy Sheirgill had announced his decision of turning producer after being in the industry for close to a decade and a half. Now his announcement has taken a practical shape as Jimmy has gone ahead and launched his first production DHARTI - a Punjabi-Hindi bilingual flick. The film is all set to go on floors in the month of November and expectedly would feature Jimmy as the lead protagonist as well.
Confirms Jimmy, "Yes, we are ready to roll DHARTI. While the story and setting would mainly belong to Punjab, the Hindi version would be an added bonus. The story of my film will be definitely rooted because it is all about catching the pulse of the target audience."
A dramatic thriller, DHARTI is yet another instance of Jimmy working with a relatively new director. While hunt is on for the leading lady, DHARTI would be directed by Navaniat Singh who has given Jimmy two of his biggest Punjabi blockbusters - MEL KARADE RABBA and before that TERA MERA KI RISHTA. Incidentally, these were the first two films as a director with Navaniat. "Yes, in my career so far I have worked with a lot of first time directors," admits Jimmy, "I don't shy away from doing that since there are times when some newcomers really get very interesting ideas. In any case, Navaniat is no more a newcomer. He has given two blockbusters already. He understands the medium really well. I am sure we would be able to score a hat trick with DHARTI."
