There are several examples of a director-actor duo working in tandem to create magic at the ticket window; Amitabh Bachchan -Manmohan Desai, Shah Rukh Khan- Aditya Chopra and Akshay Kumar-Priyadarshan are a few that one can recall instantly. However in recent times none can deny the box-office record of actor Emraan Hashmi and director Mohit Suri whose release to success ratio is simply amazing.
Starting with the drama thriller ZEHAR, which was a good hit, Emraan's cameo in the runway hit KALYUG was much loved and appreciated. This was followed by AWARAPAN, which may been squashed between two big releases, namely the Deols' APNE and Himesh's musical hit AAP KA SURROOR, but it did win Emraan a lot of critical acclaim. And their last film was the horror flick RAAZ-THE MYSTERY CONTINUES, which was an above average fare. What also worked in favour was the super hit musical scores of all the above mentioned films. The only film directed by Mohit Suri not featuring Emraan Hashmi, WOH LAMHE, starring Shiney Ahuja and Kangna Ranaut, did not quite impress at the ticket window.
Not many will realize that Mohit-Emraan's upcoming October 8 release, CROOK-IT'S GOOD TO BE BAD, based on racial discrimination is the duo's fifth movie together and Mohit's sixth. So, what is it that makes their pair tick?
Well, most people who are avid Bollywood followers will know that Mohit Suri and Emraan Hashmi are very good friends. Even Emraan's wife Parveen shares a very good relation with Mohit and his sister Smilie Suri (seen in KALYUG). Emraan accepts that he shares a very good tuning with Mohit and the fact that all the films that they have done together have made money for the distributors makes it all the more viable and enjoyable.
Well, the good hype that CROOK has managed to pull off before release will surely ensure that Emraan-Mohit's 'jodi' is all set to emerge victorious once again.
