A decade and a half ago, when film maker Vipul Shah had directed a Gujarati play called ACTION REPLAYY, he hadn't thought in his wildest dreams that one day he would be making a movie out of it. It was a humble outing for some real time performance and it was only after the huge popularity and immense popularity that came for the play, especially the retro look which it carried, that the germ of it being converted into a film was first sown into Vipul's mind.
"I went ahead and directed different movies like AANKHEN, WAQT, NAMASTEY LONDON and LONDON DREAMS. Still, it was etched into my memory that one day I would make ACTION REPLAYY as a film as well. A film which really brought to fore the retro look and culture had still not been made with all the necessary ingredients and I knew that when I would attempt it, it had to be something unique and special."
The results were there to be seen as the very first mandate by Vipul to his team was to get the look right.
"In the play that we did way back in 1994, we had perfected the look of the 70s. It was for a play setting and when it comes to an entire film, a lot more has to into it", informs Vipul who has tried an out and out romantic entertainer for the first time in his career, "There were such positive reactions to the retro look that we had designed for our play and in case of the film, it only had to be bigger and better. We had to select the best and we got it in ACTION REPLAYY where Akshay (Kumar) and Aishwarya (Rai) gave their whole hearted support and commitment."
With music by Pritam, ACTION REPLAYY would be enjoying a big Diwali release on 5th November.
