Ram Gopal Varma is all geared up for his big release RAKHT CHARITRA. This follows RANN which arrived at the beginning of the year. Despite making all the right noises for a well made film like RANN, Ramu had to face disappointment with audience not quite stepping in for the Amitabh Bachchan starrer. Has he ever wondered in hindsight that what went wrong in the making, marketing or release of the film due to which there weren't many footfalls?
"I think we all become experts when we have to reflect in the past. Due to this reason, today there isn't anything valid in even thinking about it. It is past", is all that Ramu is willing to comment here.

However, prod him further and he opens up after a brief pause, "There are two ways to look at the reception of a film. One is about whether it has been liked and the second is whether it created enough desire amongst people to watch it. I guess where the film didn't work was the latter part. Some people say that after seeing Bachchan as a hero in SARKAR, there was no way that they were willing to see him as just another character in RANN."
He continues, "Then some also say that may be the campaign for the film went wrong. They were perhaps expecting high energy of entertainment quotient in RANN while I made something where the pitch was quite low key. The fact though is that eight out of ten people who saw RANN liked it. However, not enough people saw the film. But then as I said even earlier, it is futile to analyse. When the same film would have worked, we would have said everything right about it."
Well, we do hope now that there are quite a few positive things to say about RAKHT CHARITRA, the Part I of which releases today.
