Before ACTION REPLAYY, Akshay Kumar and Vipul Shah have worked in three films together where the former has been directed by the latter. AANKHEN, WAQT and NAMASTEY LONDON are the films in question though Akshay has also worked in Anees Bazmee directed SINGH IS KINNG, which had Vipul donning the hat of a producer. Now that Vipul has directed Akshay for the fourth time, he goes on to narrate how he has gone for an image change for his close friend and favourite actor.
"When Akshay played a blind man in AANKHEN, it was something new. Later WAQT was a family film for Akshay when he was doing quite a few comedies. NAMASTEY LONDON was a romantic musical that Akshay was doing after long and now it is a retro outing for him; something that he has never done before. I am happy that whether it is Akshay as well as Ash, I have managed to present them both differently," says Vipul who is now keeping his fingers crossed for the Diwali release of the film.
On being questioned if he was wary about the comic image that Akshay has developed, especially during last half a decade, and how he instead devised a romantic musical entertainer with him, he states, "Whenever I approach an actor, I don't even discuss with actors about the image that they carry. I talk about the roles that I have to offer to them and then convince them to work in my films. If you continue to play on with an actor's image year after year, some stagnation is bound to set in."
Well, come 5th November and we would know if there is something really unique about the manner in which Akshay has been presented in the film and whether ACTION REPLAYY indeed turns out to be a different affair.
