DABANGG is a smash success and now the only debate is around whether the film would be a super hit or a blockbuster. In all the euphoria, while Salman Khan is being raised on a pedestal, one man who has actually contributed as calling the shots - the director himself - has seemingly been ignored. As huge collections continue to our in, producer Arbaaz Khan acknowledges the good work put by debutant director Abhinav Kashyap and reaffirms that he was the right man for the job.
"I could see that the way he narrated the film, felt about it and the strong understanding that he carried, Abhinav would have been the best man for the job," says Arbaaz who instantly decided to back the project once Abhinav came to him with the story of DABANGG.
One wonders though that when Arbaaz and Salman could have roped in any other prominent director to helm DABANGG, why did they choose to put their money on a newbie director like Abhinav? Wasn't it the case of blind faith?
"See, when a writer comes to you with the capability of being a director as well, you have to give the situation a fair thought," reflects Arbaaz, "Of course I could have requested Abhinav to sell me the script and then make it with another director. However, I had a sense that he would be able to crack it well. Since he had lived the film and brought with him certain sensibilities that were required for a story belonging to this genre, it was imperative that Abhinav calls the shots."
He smiles though when asked if it was all hunky dory to begin with.
"Well, we agreed to disagree on a lot of things," laughs Arbaaz, "But then it's okay. Everyone starts off first hand with a film and then matures over a period of time. You have to believe in an individual and support him right through a film's shoot."
