Fourth time director Siddharth Anand has been enjoying a cent percent success rate so far. After SALAAM NAMASTE and TA RA RUM PUM with Saif Ali Khan, he went on to do BACHNA AE HASEENO with Ranbir Kapoor. As is known, each of the three films made money at the box office. Now that his Ranbir starrer ANJAANA ANJAANI is up for release, does he really feel fortunate to be working with some of the best stars in the business?
"Yes, I can say that I am fortunate. However, let's also remember that Saif and I had started working together on SALAAM NAMASTE when his HUM TUM hadn't released. He hadn't established himself as a solo star but then I knew that Saif was the kind of actor whom I could see fitting so well in a contemporary romcom. There was nobody like Saif in that bracket at that time and hence the decision worked. Of course that was a chance that both of us are taking and I am fortunate in the sense that Saif too believed in a newcomer like me", says Siddharth who had been a long standing assistant director at Yash Raj Films before he started making films himself.
When it comes to Ranbir Kapoor, Siddharth tags the association as a good marriage that went on to give good results.
"We had cast Ranbir before his SAAWARIYA had released. He was like 'band muthi'. No one knew whether he would be a huge star or not. Still, we believed in each other. Now after BACHNA AE HASEENO and ANJAANA ANJAANI, I guess it did make for a good marriage", he laughs.
For producer Sajid Nadiadwala too, it was a well thought of decision as he has mainly worked with Salman Khan and Akshay Kumar in the past. "Ranbir is one of the rare newcomers, who has rose to become a superstar in quick time. Within three years of entering the industry, he has found such a huge following. For a genre that ANJAANA ANJAANI carries and the youth flavour that it has, Ranbir was just the right choice."
