A few months back while we were discussing the making of LAHORE with the young and handsome director, Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan, his convictions, passion, dedication and rooted thoughts had convinced us that the film LAHORE was destined for big things. And indeed the 'Indira Gandhi Award For Best Debut Film of A Director' at the 57th National Film Awards, only strengthens the thought and belief that the there is justice and reward after all for sincere and honest work.
SANJAY PURAN SINGH CHAUHAN
When we called up Sanjay, the first sounds that we heard were those of 'dhol' and 'nagada' and a visibly happy Singh was honest enough to admit that he was expecting some awards for LAHORE but definitely not a National Award. Sanjay went on to tell us about all the roadblocks he had to face while making LAHORE, being an outsider.
When we asked him if he considers himself lucky to be able to make a film on his own terms and win a National Award as well, he replied, "Yes." And who would he like to dedicate the award to? Sanjay said, "I was very close to my mother and she always wanted me to become a director. Upon her passing away, I moved in to making films and LAHORE is the result. This recognition is due to her blessings and prayers and so I would like to dedicate it to her."
Here is wishing many more laurels and international awards for Sanjay! You deserve it mate!
