Congratulatory messages are pouring in for the entire team of 3 IDIOTS after it was declared the most popular film providing wholesome entertainment at the 57th National Film Awards.

An elated Raj Kumar Hirani says, "It came as a pleasant surprise. National Awards are special. It's good that the film has got this recognition."

Vinod added, "I was actually in South Africa. Just came back. I was off the plane and we (Raj Kumar and I) chatted but not about this. Then suddenly I got a message. I called him said 'We've won a National Award'. He said 'Really? Where?' I said on TV and he put the TV on. So it feels really nice coming back home for this."

This is the third time that director Raj Kumar Hirani and producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra producer have won a National Award for their film. Earlier, Munnabhai MBBS and LAGE RAHO MUNNABHAI also won National Awards.

So are the National Awards more important than the hordes of other popular awards? Vidhu says, "To me all recognition of good work is a great feeling because it encourages more people to make that kind of cinema. If 3 IDIOTS was a good film and gets a National Award, then may be it will inspire some other idiot to make good cinema."

And is it as good as winning an Oscar? "Indians have blown Oscars out of proportion. It is like any other Award. It is nothing bigger or smaller," retorted Vidhu.

3 IDIOTS was a huge success at the box office. And now it has won National Award. What makes Raju happier? Box office success or National Award recognition? "Both make me happy. I am very greedy for both," said Raju with a grin.
