ANJAANA ANJAANI is finally up for release and as indicated by the striking promos of the film, this Ranbir Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra starrer has been shot at some of the flashiest and glossiest places of USA. When quite a few films in recent past have reveled in their 'desi' rustic settings, most notable being DABANGG, it is a visible shift to see ANJAANA ANJAANI turning out to be one unabashed journey into a fantasy world.
"Well, as a director, my job is to utilize the visual as well as sound medium while making a film," says Siddharth whose earlier efforts too have boasted of some unexplored locations, "You can have a scene without a sound but not without a visual. What you show on screen has to be eye pleasing. This is the reason why when you would come out of ANJAANA ANJAANI, you would have had your quota of America 'darshan' done."
With this Sajid Nadiadwala production being shot in three of the most vibrant cities in the world - New York, San Francisco and Las Vegas - the impact can pretty much be felt. However, didn't it lead to a burden in the pockets of the producer who spent crores in reaching out to the right locations, hence making the film an expensive affair.
"When you make a film, you do the calculations well in advance," says Sajid whose films have always been lavish affairs, most recently being HOUSEFULL and KAMBAKKHT ISHQ, both of which were shot all over the globe, "Moreover, you also have to see if your story demands such a setting. If a director comes to me with a script that doesn't require exotic locales, I won't go for them."
"However, the root idea of Siddharth's story idea of ANJAANA ANJAANI was about two strangers meeting at a common point and then setting off for a journey," he continues, "It made a complete sense to have them visit the kind of places that they eventually do as their love story progresses."
