Bhushan Kumar is today producing one of the hottest films of the year - READY. However he is not getting carried away with the film's production and it's selling, something that he admits falling prey to during his earlier stint as a producer with KARZZZZ. He admits though that staying grounded is the need of the situation since he has gone through an unpleasant experience of selling KARZZZZ at a high price.
"Those were the times when films were made for 40 crores and expectation was to sell it for 125 crores. Market had witnessed such a huge jump and a film being sold for 70-80 crores was a norm", remembers Bhushan, "There was this huge hype building around the boom in the industry and everyone just went out of their mind."
Bhushan admits that he too got carried away in the entire process.
"We made KARZZZZ keeping that in mind as we were getting good money. In the hindsight I feel that it was a wrong move. We were just moving with the industry and were still learning. When everyone around you is making proposal and corporate houses are offering you big bucks, you do get carried away. Those were the days when movie prices were shown on the first page of newspapers."
He continues, "I am not blaming others too who followed the similar route. Sometimes people make films for passion and sometimes for money; it is a mental perspective. Eventually all of this had to stop and the market started crashing. Now the same people who were offering such huge prices have lost 100-200 crores. There aren't any unrealistic offers anymore and this is the reason why we are not even asking for that in case of READY. There was temptation till a few years back but not any more. The business today is for everyone to profit from a film."
Directed by Anees Bazmee, READY releases all over on 3rd June.
