On their release, one would expected that GAME and F.A.L.T.U would run neck to neck with each other on their release though latter would have a slight edge due to it's youthful appeal and chartbuster music. However Abhishek Bachchan wasn't taken too lightly either and hence it was expected that both films would take around 50% opening each.
However what happened over the weekend was something that neither the makers of GAME nor F.A.L.T.U. would have fathomed. Let's talk about GAME first. The film just didn't open at all which clearly shows that the promos had not managed to make any impression whatsoever, the music had failed and Abhishek Bachchan's stardom was at an all time low post KHELEIN HUM JEE JAAN SEY and RAAVAN's debacle. There is one thing about a film being rejected and another about not been given any chance at all. In case of GAME, it was unfortunately the latter with no one even bothering to check out what the film was all about.
Now let's discuss some good news. F.A.L.T.U. took a fantastic start all over which was next only to YAMLA PAGLA DEEWANA this year. In fact other successes like TANU WEDS MANU, NO ONE KILLED JESSICA and DIL TOH BACHCHA HAI JI had started on a much slower note whereas the opening of F.A.L.T.U. has only proven to be miraculous.
Though there was no star value to boast of, three factors that worked in the film's favour were - 1) Chartbuster music, 2) Terrific all around promotion by producer Vashu Bhagnani and 3) Quality of promos that kept taking new form every week.
Success of films like TANU WEDS MANU, NO ONE KILLED JESSICA and BAND BAAJA BAARAAT goes on to prove yet again that audience is willing to expect even star-less affairs with open arms, as long they boast of unique content.
